The Nordmann fir (Abies nordmanniana) is characterised by having non-sticky needles as well as a long post-harvest quality - particularly if the tree is put into water. The stem bark is smooth and grey. The top side of the needles is dark green and glossy, and the underside has two white-blue stripes. The Nordmann fir generally has solid needle and branch vigour.
In many areas within Europe, the Nordmann fir is the preferred Christmas tree species due to its appearance and solid post-harvest quality. During the past 15 years, the Nordmann fir has outperformed many original Christmas tree species such as Norway spruce, blue spruce and different pine species.
