One kg of seeds can produce 3,000-5,000 new trees, but only approx. 50% of the trees ends up as Christmas trees. The seed is sown closely in the bed in which the trees grow for 2-3 years. Subsequently, the trees are sold as 3/0 plants, i.e. they have grown for three years in a seedbed and 0 years in a transplant bed. The plants can also be transplanted in a transplant bed, in which they grow for 1-2 years, after which they are sold as 2/1 or 2/2 - the latter have grown 2 years in a seedbed and 2 years in a transplant bed. A 2/2 plant is both higher and more rich than a 3/0 plant, and it will therefore most often perform better on sites with lots of weeds.
