The chlorophyll granules of the plants deliver the green colour. The chlorophyll granules consist in particular of chlorophyll, which in fact is the matter that delivers the green colour, and here nitrogen is the nutrient which is available in the largest amount. Nitrogen is generally the nutrient constituting the largest component of plants and trees. The natural nitrogen content of several other trees is 2.5% to 3.5%. The content in Christmas trees is no more than approx. 1.6%. This is one of the reasons why only limited amounts of fertilizers are applied to Christmas trees compared to the amounts applied to other plants.
