Only a small amount of fertiliser is used with sustainable natural trees, the actual amount being dictated by need and the soil conditions. Fertiliser plans must be prepared, and fertiliser use must be reported annually. The application of nutrients depends on the soil, which means that on light soil types, either organic fertilisers are used or only a small amount of fertiliser is applied frequently so that the amount applied corresponds to the tree’s nutrient uptake.

A reduction in greenhouse gases (NH3) from livestock manure is achieved through the addition of inhibitor, the timing of application and other methods.

In general, there will be a minimal loss of nutrients to the surrounding environment through leaching to the benefit of drinking water quality.
